Where to eat:

For some seriously scenic views get a table at the River Grill one of three dining options offered at the Stewart House Hotel. You’ll be dining on the riverbank surrounded by draping willows wooing you. A HUTS favorite on the menu is the Catskill Rainbow Trout with prosciutto and arugula, and you can’t go wrong with fresh oysters here! The River Grill also hosts an Oyster Fest supplied by West Passage Oyster Company! Another Athens classic for good food and good brews is Crossroads Brewpub located in the renovated Brooks Opera House serving up everything from wings to hushpuppies and rice bowls.

What to do outside:

Don’t leave without taking a stroll along the Athens Riverfront Park, during the summer it is ripe for picnics, and boating. You might even catch some music on Fridays organized by the Athens Performing Arts Corp. Another great riverside activity is taking a guided tour of the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, built in 1874 and still functional! If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous head over to Screaming Eagle Outdoor Adventures for kayak and paddle board rentals and guided tours with launch sites right on the Hudson River.
