Town Guide #22: Margaretville

For HUTS twenty second Town Guide follow us along through Margaretville. This sweet little town is a hub for the central Catskills. With charm and history Margaretville has something for everyone. Main street is lined with eclectic shops and a variety of restaurants, this town will not disappoint for a weekend getaway.

Where to eat:

Be sure to grab some delicate delicious pastries from Cafe Marguerite, dessert is the most important meal of the day, right? Well you can also grab some classic breakfast staples and hearty sandwiches to have too, whether that’s before or after dessert is up to you!

What to do outside:

Get active in Margaretville! Try hiking the Kelly Hollow Loop trail that’s accessible from town, or take out a kayak on the Pepacton Reservoir. Only non-motorized kayaks and canoes and rowboats are allowed and all boats must be at least 9 feet in length. You can also hit the green at the Hanah Mountain Resort and Country Club and play 18 holes of golf on a pristine catskills course. There’s so much to do in and around Margaretville you’ll be sure to have a great weekend.

What to do inside:

For some wholesome indoor fun take a ride over to the Ark Bowl & BBQ. This restored 1960’s bowling alley is just on the outskirts of Margaretville and is a staple in the community. Offering up killer barbeque and refreshments in their saloon you won’t want to leave, if you’re lucky may even catch some live music while you’re there!

Where to stay: 

The Margaretville Mountain Inn offers stunning views from the wrap-around porch of this 1886 Queen Anne Victorian Bed and Breakfast. With classic countryside charm you’ll feel like staying in a bed and breakfast straight out of a fairytale each night.
