Town Guide #10: Narrowsburg

Welcome to the tenth edition of our HUTS Town Guide Series. Today we’re traveling to Narrowsburg, this Delaware River town is as rich in history as it is in arts and culture. This classic river town has much more to offer than your stereotypical small town.

Where to eat:

The Cochecton Fire Station takes comfort food very seriously, from skirt steak to shrimp and pineapple, cuban corn to mac and cheese and topping it all off with s’mores and a cocktail this restaurant will find a quick place in your heart. Located in an unassuming old firehouse as the name suggests it was renovated into a beautiful classic pub with comfortable leather couches for seating with a fireplace to keep it Catskills cozy.

What to do outside:

Get some fresh air with Zane Grey Plein Air outdoor painting workshops for all skill levels. This is a great activity that’s much different from the usual Catskills outdoor activities like hiking, tubing, fishing, etc.  People are invited to draw or paint year-round in various outdoor locations for short two-hour sessions. You can either BYOB (bring your own brushes, and materials) or drawing tutorials are available for beginners with basic drawing kits for purchase. No experience necessary!

What to do inside:

If you find yourself taking a stroll down main street you will not want to pass One Grand Books. Named as one of GQ’s 25 Best New Businesses, One Grand Books isn’t your normal book store. Their ever changing inventory is based on a rotating selection of 100 people’s top ten books they would take with them to a desert island. The 100 people range from public figures, celebrities, designers, musicians, artists, actors, performers and directors, to politicians, novelists, scientists and athletes who were chosen to pick their top ten books. So if you’ve forgotten your book to read by the fire stop by One Grand and pick up one of Tom Hanks must have reads.

Where to Stay:

Blue Hills Farm has to be the coolest Airbnb in the area, this glamping tent is not only set in the most serene forest just 3 miles from main street but combines the miracles of indoor plumbing with camping. This platform tent has an en suite indoor bathroom! Like an actual bathroom, with a shower, sink, flushing toilet and four walls! You’ll get to wake up to the birds chirping but still get to have all of the comforts of home.
